'Tomiko Kaminari Kuma Burns', which loosely translates to 'Pretty-Girl Thunder-Bear' was born on January 21st, 1993. She was one of a litter of seven puppies, each weighing 1.8 pounds, born to 'Fella-bear Kelly' and 'Elky Fashion by Thunder'. "Miko", as she preferred to be called, was purchased by Bill Burns at Englishtown Farmer's Market some eight weeks thereafter. As a full-grown Akita, she weighed in at nearly 125 pounds. She was generally distrusting of strangers but loyal to, and protective of, those she loved. Miko was a faithful companion and a loyal friend for many years and lived happily in the house Bill Burns bought for her in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
Miko's interests included: eating, napping, taking walks and playing in her yard. She enjoyed staying at the kennel (or going to camp, as we liked to call it) and became an essential part of the family business: BASE-2, Incorporated.
At approximately midnight, Wednesday October 6th, 2004, Miko passed away. She had been healthy, happy and full of joy up until her final hours. She passed gently and her friend Bill Burns was there to comfort her up to the very end. Miko was a unique animal and the most loyal of friends. She had an irrepressible zest for life and brought many hours of happiness to those who knew and loved her. The world has been lessened with her loss and she will not be forgotten.
Note: the Akita Action Association is an organization which endeavors, through education, to increase public awareness regarding the breed.
